BECHTELSVILLE, PA. – Rain, which had been predicted for a little later in the night, ended up arriving earlier than expected, putting an early end to the racing program on Saturday night at Grandview Speedway.
The rains arrived during the running of the final qualifying heat race on Saturday night, ending the racing program before any feature race action could be completed.
Grandview Speedway’s rain out policy states once four or more events have been run, the race program is considered a completed show, so all grandstand tickets and pit wristbands from the June 29 show are no longer valid, however, track management will keep all events that were run as official, with drivers who ran their heats races now qualified for their respective feature events. It was the first night of the 17th Annual Eastern Storm, the first career USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Championship win for Allentown, PA’s Briggs Danner, and the first NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series victory for Vineland, NJ’s Eric Kormann in the NASCAR 358 Modifieds. Danner collected a $6,000 payday with his hometown crowd cheering him on to the popular victory. For Kormann, the 30 lap Modified feature paid $3,000 to win and with Pioneer Pole Buildings posting a $2,000 bonus for a first time winner, his take was $5,000 for his first career Thunder on the Hill Modified victory. Mahaney started in position eleven of twelve in his qualifying heat race, the final qualifier of the night, then worked his way forward and finished fifth to qualify for the feature event. Astound Broadband has finalized their schedule of television dates for racing at Grandview Speedway. The Astound TV Network (ATVN) will once again be returning for their 22nd season at Grandview to record the race events on six selected Saturday nights, and then show the broadcasts on a tape-delayed basis. The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series will open their thirty-fifth season on Tuesday night, May 28 when Levan Machine & Truck Equipment present the Rich Mar Florist High Limit 410 Sprints at Grandview Speedway. Defending race winner Rico Abreu of St Helena, California thrilled the crowd last year when he wrestled the lead away from NASCAR standout Kyle Larson and held off his late race challenge to win the first event High Limit Sprint Show in the Northeast.
On race night, Tuesday, May 28 gates will open at 4:00 PM at the first turn gate for advance ticket holders and general admission tickets will go on sale at 4:30 PM. Qualifying begins at 7:30 PM.
