VONDOHREN, SCHUTZ AND HENN WIN GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY 2016 CHAMPIONSHIPS
BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 4, 2016 . . . There are two repeat champions and one new champion based on the final point standings released by NASCAR sanctioned Grandview Speedway.
Craig VonDohren earned 4509 points with five feature wins to claim his ninth T.P.Trailers NASCAR 358 Modified championship. Veteran racer Mike Gular kept the race close throughout the season settling for second with 4371 points without benefit of a feature win. Ten time track champion Jeff Strunk finished third in the final standings with 4286 points and two main event victories.
VonDohren’s five feature wins made him the first driver in the history of the one-third-mile, banked clay track to claim 100 feature victories during his career.
In the BRC Late Model division of competition Chuck Schutz was able to capture three feature wins and tally 3683 points to earn his eighth Late Model crown. Wayne Pfeil tallied 3415 points to grab second spot in the final standings.
The closest point race was in the Sportsman division with young Jordan Henn claiming the title with 3078 points just 22 points more than second place finisher Mike Lisowski who had 3056 counters. Henn took one victory during the season while Lisowski won two times.
There were 26 different feature winners in the three divisions of NASCAR stock car racing presented at Grandview Speedway with close to 150 different racers taking part.
Racing action returns to Grandview Speedway on Friday, September 9th at 7 p.m. when the TSRS Sprints join the Sportsman stock cars in an exciting doubleheader show. The Sportsman will top off their part of the night’s action with a 38-lap feature. Adult admission is $12 with youngsters 6 through 11 admitted or $5. Kids under 6 are admitted FREE.
The Modifieds will be the attraction on Saturday, September 10th, 7 p.m. when the 46th Annual Freedom 76 is presented. The race offers $25,000 to the winner and, as in the past, is expected to attract a stellar field of top dirt track Modified racing talents.
